Riccardo Ghiani - flute
Principal Flute of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari Orchestra. Born in Cagliari in 1961, he completed his high school studies at the "GM Dettori" High School in Cagliari in 1980, and began his musical studies at the Cagliari Conservatory under Salvatore Saddi, earning his diploma in transverse flute in 1984 with top honors. He subsequently continued his training in the class of Maestro Raymond Guiot at the "H. Berlioz" Conservatory in Paris, obtaining the "Premier Prix de la Ville de Paris" in 1986, as well as at the Geneva Conservatory in the class of Maestro Maxence Larrieu, obtaining the "Premier Prix de Virtuosité" in 1988. He has attended various flute masterclasses with Alain Marion and Robert Dick, and also with Bruno Camino and Maurice Bourgue in chamber music. For many years, he was part of the "Spaziomusica" Ensemble in Cagliari, with which he has developed an intense activity in the field of contemporary music.
Parallel to his position as solo flute in Cagliari, he is invited to play in various orchestras such as: ORT Orchestra della Toscana (Florence), Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Ensemble Instrumental d'Île de France (Paris), Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana (Palermo), Orchestra of the National Opera Theater of Rome, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento or the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. Within his current orchestra he has had the opportunity to play with conductors such as: Gérard Korsten, Lorin Maazel, Carlo Maria Giulini, Pinchas Steinberg, Christopher Hogwood, Roberto Abbado, Guennadi Rozhdenstvensky, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Emmanuel Krivine, Georges Pretre, Ivan Fischer, George Benjamin, Frans Bruggen, Ton Koopman, Trevor Pinnock, Peter Schreier, Luciano Berio, Serge Baudo, etc. He has also taught at the conservatories of Cagliari, Sassari, Reggio Calabria and Palermo.
From 1996 to 2001, he was assistant professor to M. Aurèle Nicolet at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and from 2001 to 2006, he held the position of professor, alongside M. Nicolet, at the Academia Estiva in Hvar, Croatia. He also teaches advanced training courses at the Siglo XXI Traversing Flute Academy in Madrid. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses both in Italy and abroad: Spain, Croatia, France, Romania, and Poland.
He teaches at various summer courses, such as "Bosa Antica" (Bosa), the "Ciudad de Segovia" Music Course, and the "Non solo Musica in Toscana" academy (Montespertoli). He has served on various juries for national and international competitions and has also been invited as an expert jury for the final examinations of Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Conservatories of Strasbourg, Neuchâtel, and Geneva. He is a founding member of the Hoffmansthal Ensemble and co-artistic director of the "Le piace Richard Strauss?" (Do you like R. Strauss?) Festival, in collaboration with the "Richard Strauss" Institute in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He is regularly invited as a soloist and teacher at several national and international flute festivals and conventions.
He is carrying a "GUO Grenaditte" flute, the result of the most advanced research in the field of organology of the instrument.
