Schiavo Marchegiani Duo – piano

The Schiavo-Marchegiani Duo is appreciated by international audiences and critics for its unique style, the naturalness of its musical discourse, the beauty of its sound, and the intensity and overwhelming energy of its performances.

In parallel to their intense solo career, since 2006 Sergio Marchegiani and Marco Schiavo have formed one of the most active and dynamic piano duos on the Italian and international scene.

They have given hundreds of concerts all over the world, playing in the most prestigious venues: Great Hall of Carnegie Hall in New York, Great Hall of the Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Golden Hall of the Musikverein and Great Hall of the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Great Hall of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Rudolfinum and Smetana Hall in Prague, Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, Hermitage Theatre in St. Petersburg, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, as well as in Rome, Paris, Zurich, Ljubljana, Sofia, Istanbul, Oslo, Helsinki, Moscow, Montreal, Washington, Mexico City, Montevideo, São Paulo, Baku, Astana, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Singapore, etc. In 2013 they made their debut at the Ravello Festival; In 2017, they gave a recital at the Sala Verdi of the Milan Conservatory during the Concert Society Season, which invited them back in 2019.

They have appeared with major orchestras such as the Berliner Symphoniker, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Symphonic Orchestra, the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, the Istanbul Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestras of Mexico City, Prague and Madrid, and the Camerata Ducale of Vercelli.

They have recorded for national radio and television stations in Italy (RAI Radio3), the Czech Republic (live on Channel 3 from Dvořák Hall), Switzerland (RTS), Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Mexico and Hong Kong.

Marco Schiavo and Sergio Marchegiani are Decca artists. In 2014, the prestigious label released their first CD dedicated to Franz Schubert, which received rave reviews: “total, high-class piano playing” (Antonio Brenna, “Amadeus”); “The duo formed by Schiavo and Marchegiani must be praised… The immense theme of solitude [in the Fantasia in F minor] and its exorcism are masterfully expressed by these two eminent pianists” (Claudio Strinati, “Il Venerdì di Repubblica”). In 2018, they released their second CD, “Dances,” featuring Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dances and Waltzes, Op. 39. “…a perfect balance, the fruit of intense research… an admirable sonic and stylistic equilibrium” (Mattia Rossi, 5 stars, “Amadeus”); “A performance that isn't heard, but rather drunk with the ears, as if it were a glass of champagne transformed into sound. The brilliance of the timbre, the clarity of the eloquence, the exaltation of the rhythm make this CD the absolute reference recording for WoO 1 and Op. 39. A must-see” (Andrea Bedetti, 5/5 on “MusicVoice”). In 2020, Decca released a third CD featuring Mozart's Concertos for Two Pianofortes, K. 242 and K. 365, and Kozeluch's Concerto for Piano Four Hands, recorded in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gudni A. Emilsson. “Very lively and precise performances… But what experts notice most is the precision of the trills, always vibrant, always measured drop by drop, as if nightingales were reinforcing the instrumentation” (Piero Rattalino, 4 stars on “Musica”). His latest recording project is the complete works for piano four-hands by Mozart, recorded at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and released on two CDs by Decca in 2021 and 2023.

Since 2022, they have collaborated with actor Michele Placido on the show "Il sosia. Public and private life of Franz Schubert, musicista," specially written by Stefano Valanzuolo.

They have studied with such great pedagogues as Ilonka Deckers Küszler, Alexander Lonquich, Bruno Canino, Franco Scala, Aldo Ciccolini, and Sergei Dorenski. They teach at the Conservatories of Alessandria and Potenza, are frequently invited to serve on juries at international competitions, and offer master classes around the world (Spain, Serbia, Turkey, the United States, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Japan, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, etc.).
