Alejandro Saiz - violin
Professor of Violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. As a soloist with orchestra, he has performed works by Bach, Vivaldi, Brahms, Sarasate, Rodrigo, and Williams. He has also given recitals and concerts in Spain, Italy, Japan, the United States, Germany, Zimbabwe, Morocco, and elsewhere, appearing in venues such as the National Auditorium, the Juan March Foundation, the Segovia International Festival, the Santander International Festival, the Conde Duque Auditorium, the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, the Marcelino Botín Foundation, the Liceo Theatre of Salamanca, the Francisco Tárrega International Festival, the Málaga Philharmonic Society, the Badajoz Philharmonic Society, the Berlin Mendelssohn Gesellschaft, the Kulas Recital Hall, and the Harare International Festival of the Arts, among many others. He has recorded extensively for RNE (National Radio), TVE (Spanish Television), and Telecinco (Television of Spain).
He is the first violin of the Ars Hispanica Quartet, considered by specialized critics as "one of the best chamber groups in Spain," with which he has recorded DVDs and CDs for the labels RTVE-Música and Marcelino Botín Foundation, being a finalist in the VI Edition of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Music Awards, in the category of best classical album.
His commitment to contemporary music has led him to perform more than 80 world premieres of works for solo violin and chamber music by Ángel Oliver, Ramón Barce, Tomás Marco, Mauricio Sotelo, Zulema de la Cruz, Jesús Rueda, Ananda Sukarlan, João Guilherme Ripper, Carlos Cruz de Castro, Mario Carro, Francisco Novel Sámano, Alejandro López Román, Eduardo Rincón, Fernando Palacios, Valentín Ruiz, Markus Breuss, Juan Cruz-Guevara, Mercedes Zavala, Ángela Gallego, Jacobo Durán-Lóriga, Antonio Noguera Guinovart and Juan Carlos Torres, among many others.
He has been concertmaster of the Spanish National Ensemble of Contemporary Music and a full member of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, from which he is on leave.
As a result of his important teaching career, his students have completed postgraduate studies at some of Europe's finest music institutions, including the Guildhall School in London, Codarts in Rotterdam, the Musik Hochschule in Freiburg, the Robert Schumann Musik Hochschule in Düsseldorf, the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, Poland, and the University of Debrecen, Hungary. They have also been selected to perform with the Netherlands National Youth Orchestra (NJO), the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE), the Gustavo Dudamel Foundation Orchestra, and the Youth Orchestra of the Community of Madrid (JORCAM). They have also collaborated with prestigious professional orchestras such as the London Symphony, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, and the Community of Madrid Orchestra (ORCAM), and hold teaching positions at conservatories in Spain and Europe.
Born in Cantabria, he began his musical training with Carlos Diego. He continued in Oviedo with José Ramón Hevia and Lev Tchistiakov. He later moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies with Almita Vamos and Roland Vamos at the Oberlin Conservatory. He furthered his training with Rodney Friend, Erick Friedman, Boris Belkin, Boris Garlitski, Eugene Drucker, José Luis García Asensio, Zakhar Bron, Agustín León Ara, and Gonçal Comellas.
